 Tryon Palace is a restored 18th-century governor’s mansion in New Bern, North Carolina, originally built in 1770 for Royal Governor William Tryon.   Tryon County was a colonial-era county in New York, created in 1772 and named for British governor William Tryon. During the American Revolution it became a center of frontier conflict, and in 1784 it was renamed Montgomery County to honor General Richard Montgomery.
